Ebenezer Locke

Ebenezer Locke

Male Abt 1700 -

  • EBENEZER LOCKE m. ELIZABETH ; I have never found her family name, the date of his birth, marriage, nor death, nor that of his wf. I have supposed that his mother was his fa. 2. wf. ; but think it is an error, as he would not have been old enough to have md. and had a son in 1717. He and his wf. covenanted with the Ch. in Lex. Ap. 28, 1717; and is prob. the Ebenezer who was " impressed " before 1746, with Jonathan Locke, prob. in the French war. He was living June 11, 1752, for he then sold Samuel Reed of Wob. 20 acres of meadow land in Wob., but must have d. before Mh. 9, 1765 ; his daus. with their husbands then conveyed to their bro. Ebenezer the " whole of their father's estate, both real and personal," for <£100. He resided on the place now occupied by the Wid. Duren, in the extreme westerly corner of Wob. in 1712, (then called Jr.) he bought of Daniel Bloggett for ,£40 " passing money " 17 acres in Wob. at " Rock Meadow Plain," bounded by Timothy Reed South and East; by George Reed, North, and Samuel Richardson, West; including "housing and timber," &c. In 1721-2 (then called Ebenezer 2d.) he bought of Edward Johnson, Jr. and Ebenezer Johnson, Jr. of Wob. for £30, 10 acres at." Rock Meadow Plain," in two pieces, bounded by Timothy Reed, William Locke, the " range lines " and his own land. In 1738, his brothers and sisters conveyed to him. part of their father's estate, viz. : 18 acres at " Rock Meadow Plain," bounded Northerly by William Locke, Westerly by Thomas Bloggett, Jr., Southerly by the Range way, and Easterly by Samuel Wyman ; 13J- acres bounded Northerly by Range way. Westerly and Southerly on a part of his father's farm and a dam, and Easterly on his own land ; lO acres called " Hill Pasture," bounded Westerly on his father's estate, Southerly on John Bloggett, Northerly on path leading to Timothy Reed's, and on said Reed's land, 4 and 3 acres bounded by other portions of the estate of his father. He probably built a part of the house now known as the Duren house.
