    F23 Joseph Locke, b. Rye, 1697, m. Mercy Nixon in Block Island, Dec. 12, 1722; Thomas Rathbun, Feb. 20, 1730-1 gave land to "Marcy Lock, for the love and good will that I have unto her, whom I have brought up from her childhood." Block Island Records. Joseph Locke was made freeman in 1734, was "town sargent and constable" in 1737; was assessed for taxes from 1748 to 1773, between these dates he held many minor ofifices, but he and his wife are not mentioned after 1773.
