James Munroe
1735 -- Deacon JAMES MUNROE, m. 1. LUCY WATSON, of Cambridge, Aug. 18, 1763, who was b. May 15, 1741, the dau. of Jacob and Lydia (Munroe) Watson, of Cmb. She d. July 10, 1783, a- 42. 2. m. wid. SARAH (WYETH) HANCOCK, July 23, 1783,' the wid. of Torrey Hancock, and dau. of Ebenezer and Susannah Wyeth, all of the same town. She d. Mh. 31, 1815, a. 69. Dea. Munroe d. Sep. 15, 1804, a. 69. He was chosen Deacon of the First Church in Camb. June 30, 1783, and continued in that office till his death. He was a blacksmith by trade, and was appointed Armorer by the Provincial Congress, 1775, and acted in that capacity for a long time. The house which he built, and in which he resided, stands on Brattle Street, near Mason Street, on the corner of which last street and Phillips Place stood his blacksmith's shop, which has long since disappeared. The estate is still owned by his heirs. He was social in his disposition, and was noted like the rest of the family for his musical talents, being a fine singer, and often led the church choir. " Having (a) I am informed that they had a dau. who m. William Meriam, and moved to Sterling. proved himself the careful parent of his chil, who learned to love and copy his bright example, and after having discharged praiseworthily the duties of an office in his church for twenty years, God removed him from this world to a better."
