  • SARAH LOCKE m. WILLIAM JONES, of Weston, Dec. 25, 1733, whose pedigree is as follows : - Josiah Jones, b. in England about 1640, emigrated to New England about 1665 ; m. Lydia Treadway, (of Charlestown, ?) Oct. 2, 1667 ; settled in that part of Watertown that is now Weston, and had Josiah, Nathaniel, James, Samuel, John, Isaac, Lydia, Mary, Sarah and Anna. Josiah, Jr. m. Abigail Barnes, of Marlboro,' and had Josiah, Daniel, William, Elisha and Abigail. William, b. Jany. 4, 1706-7, md. Sarah Locke, moved to Lunenburg and built a house on what is still called Jones's Hill, which property is now possessed by his descendants. During the Indian wars his house was fortified, and was called •' the castle." Mr. Jones, who was the " King's surveyor," went to Nova Scotia to lay out a township, and on his return, the vessel in which he had taken passage, was shipwrecked and he was lost, Jany. 26, 1761.

    "Mrs. Jones was a very brave woman, and a lady ;" it is sf|id that on one occasion she saved the life of a squaw, who was pursued in a fit of passion by an Indian, by throwing open the door of her house, and letting her in, and then closing it, at the instant his tomahawk was thrown, and which stuck in the door ; the scar which it left, having often been seen by one of her grandchildren now living. She d. Oct. 20, 1788, a. 81.
