  • SAMUEL LOCKE, m. 1 RUTH . She was a member of the Church in Lexington before Oct. 16, 1698, and d. Dec. 14, 1714, a. 31 or 37. 2. He md. Mary Day of Ipswich. Intentions May 8, 1717. She prob. d. Nov. 30, 1756. He had deceased prior to this, but when I do not know.

    He was living in 1738-9, for, Jany. 30, of that year, he purchased in Lex. land of John Whitmore, and Mh. 12, of same year, he purchased land in Lex. of Jonathan Raymond. His father had given him land, and he was possessed of a large estate. A part of it was about half a mile from Lexington Common on the County road to Bedford, where a cellar is still to be seen, and where his house probably stood.

    His only son Samuel, is known to have resided at this place. He is prob. the Samuel Lock named in the following extract from the Journals of the House of Rep. 8 Feb. 1733 : - Voted, "That there be and hereby is granted 1500 acres of land, lying between the towns of Lunenburg and Rutland eastward of Wachusett Hills, to be divided to & anaong the officers & soldiers engaged in ye Fight at Lamprey River, &c to such as shall be allowed to represent those that are dead, viz. to ye representatives of Capt. Noah Wiswall, 400 acres ; to ye reps, of Lieut. Gershom Flagg, 300 acres; to ye reps, of Ens. Edwd. VValker, 200 acs. to Samuel Lock, Samuel Baker, William Bruce
