- Capt. JAMES BANCROFT m. SARAH PARSONS; resided at Reading. He was a citizen of note, was Selectman 1776, '88, '93, and '94; Representative 1780, '85, '88, '93, '94, '99, 1800, '03 ; was Dea. of the First Church 46 years ; commanded a company at the battle of Bunker Hill ; was many years in the army of the Revolution ; and was one of the original members of the Cincinnati, which was instituted in 1783. He maintained a high character for " consistency, integrity and independence," and " was gathered to his fathers as a shock of corn in its season," May 17, 1731, a. 92.
