1738 -- F208 Capt. William, b. July 26, 1738, m. Christena Paine.
F208 Capt. William Locke, born in Rye July 26, 1738, married in Rye (Keziah) or Christexa Paine (Chester records say Rachel Payne), dau. of John and Sarah of Portsmouth. She born May 3, 1740, died 1800. He married 2nd, Widow Mary Dustin of Candia, Aug. 28, 1800, who died July 13, 1827 in Candia. He died in Chester, Nov. 16, 1825. His father bought land in Chester in 1761 and William settled on lot # 12; he built a sawmill there in 1780, which was burned FIFTH GENERATIOiN 53
March 21, 1796. Jan. 8, 1782, the General Assembly voted to see if the town would accept the plan of Government and William was appointed on a committee. In 1793 he was on a committee to settle a minister. He resigned a commission in the British Army and fought with the patriots at Bunker Hill. Wm. Locke and Simeon Berry came to Chester from Rye about the same time and later their fathers came the same road to visit them. Mr. Berry wore new sheep skin breeches and being caught in a shower they sagged to his calves whereupon he cut them off at the knee. Soon the sun came out and the breeches shrunk so that they were as much too short as they were before too long.
