F468 Dorothy Locke, born Dec. 13, 1783, died 1869. She m. Elias Merrill who was born in Falmouth, Dec. 31, 1777, lived in Falmouth and Augusta, lost his ship in the War of 1812 and died in 1859.

The Merrill genealogy gives her name as Dolly, and her sister's as Betsy, but otherwise everything lines up.

F139 Josiah Locke, born in Falmouth, Me., May 21, 1757, married 1779, Elizabeth Gilpatrick of Falmouth, who died Sept. 21, 1839. He was a farmer in Falmouth, helped on fort there 1775, and was in expedition to Penobscot 1779 and was corporal in Capt. Cobb's Co., 1779. He died Falmouth Apl. 12, 1841. Gilpatrick name was afterwards known as Patrick.

Josiah married Elizabeth Gilpatrick 1779. Elizabeth died 21 Sep 1839. [Group Sheet]

Capt. Nathaniel Locke, b. in Hampton, Oct. 20,
1699, m. 1st, Jan. 6, 1725-6, Abigail Prescott, the dau. of
Jonathan and Elizabeth of Chichester; she was b. Mar. 23,
1703, and was drowned in 1735 on a vessel going from Falmouth
to Cape Ann, Mass. He m. 2nd, Mary Stubbs of Cumberland,
Me., the dau. of Richard and Rebecca. She b. July 10,
1718, d. Mar. 21, 1802. Nathaniel of Falmouth, Me., late of
Hampton, sold Nov. 14, 1729, one original right of land in Chichester
as one of the original proprietors. He and wife Mar>^
were received in the Falmouth Church 1742. In 1775 Capt.
Nathaniel Locke carried 14 cords of wood from Falmouth into
Boston to relieve the distress of the port bill. He was sentinel
in Capt. George Berry's Company, Falmouth, May 19, 1746-

He was called a planter of Hampton in 1727, when he made a deposition about land. He d. Nov. 12, 1734, in Hampton. Tradition says he had 19 children and lived where Mrs. Sarah F. Willcut now lives.

There is an error in Arthur H Locke's book. AHL had identified the mother of Nathaniel's wife Dorothy Blake as Deborah Dawlton, which has a variant spelling of Dallton. The mother's maiden name was actually Deborah Everard, and it was Deborah Everard's mother who was a Dalton.
