F249 Sergt. William Locke, born 1753, married Tryphena Saunders. William of Bath, aged 22, enlisted June 24, 1776, in James Osgood's Co. He also served in Stark's Reg., Capt. Post's Co. He was a stone-cutter, hence got the nickname of "Picker" Locke, and was called a very peculiar man. He came to Rye (probably born there) "a lone man" and died there Apl. 19, 1828.

F54 Elisha Locke, bapt. 1719 in Rye, m. Jan. 13, 1743, Tryphena Moulton, dau. of Daniel and Phoebe (Philbrick), who was b. Jan. 24, 1726. July 2, 1746, he served at Fort William and Mary at New Castle. Elisha of Rye bought land in Barrington Oct. 30, 1739, he and wife sold it in 1752. He, called a housewright, bought and sold land in Barrington 17525-6. Sold land in Rye 1755. He bought land in Chester in 1755-6, and sold it in 1764. Elisha of Chester bought land in Haverhill 1763 and Elisha a miller of Haverhill sold, in 1767 all his rights as charter member of Chester. He was a pioneer business man of Haverhill, N. H.

Elisha married Tryphena Moulton 13 Jan 1743. Tryphena (daughter of Daniel Moulton and Phoebe Philbrick) was born 24 Jan 1746. [Group Sheet]

He was on various petitions 1717-21-26; was a selectman in 1726, and called Lieut. William; was a moderator in 1743. He bought land on the way from Sandy Beach to Greenland, 1723-4, and gave it to his son Jonathan in 1728. In 1723 he bought land at Portsmouth Plains. William, a shopkeeper of Portsmouth, bought land on northwest side of the road from "Ye Bank to Greenland." June 30, 1728, he bought land in Rye called "Ye Island of ye Pond once called Locke's Hole." He sold land in Rye in 1751, and died there Jan. 22, 1768, aged 91.

Captain John Locke was probably baptized in London, England, Sept. 16, 1627, married about 1652, Elizabeth, the daughter of William and Jane Berry, and was killed by the Indians Aug. 26, 1696, in Rye, N. H. Elizabeth the widow was living in 1708 when the estate was settled and the children given below shared in its distribution. Several old papers prepared by descendants born about 1735, give the entire family, and in the following order. As first names only were given it is impossible to determine whether the girls were married, or to whom married at that time (1708) but we know nearly all were. -- Locke Genealogy 1916
